In homes built before 1978, test baseboards and door casing for lead paint before sanding or disturbing them. Use a 3M LeadCheck swab — pink/red = lead present. If positive, follow EPA RRP safe work practices: wet-sand only, HEPA vacuum, dispose of debris in sealed bags. Do not use a heat gun on lead paint.

Test the flat face of the baseboard and the edge closest to the floor — these are common high-contact spots
If uncertain, treat as lead-positive — the cost of a test kit is worth avoiding exposure
⚠️ Lead paint exposure is hazardous — especially for children and pregnant women
